About Me

My name is Blake Childers and I am in the class of 2028 at the University of Louisville where I am studying composition and new media. I currently write, arrange, and compose my own music and publish independently. I enjoy making works that fall into the categories of Jazz, Classical, and Marching Band, meaning I can compose in a versatile manner.

I was born and raised in a small town in Kentucky where I grew up loving music. In 6th grade, I joined my middle school band where I learned to play the trumpet. Later on in High School, I participated in honors bands such as Kentucky All District (District 1), KMEA All-State, and Murray State University’s Quad State. Throughout these programs, I learned more and more about music and composition.

My senior year of High School, I was selected to be in the District 1 Symphonic All District Band as the principle trumpet player. Our band was conducted my Richard Saucedo, a freelance composer and educator. He inspired me more than anyone else in my entire life. We played two of his pieces entitled Walking Through History (Clinton 12) (2017) and American Barn Dance (2020). They were both wonderful and it really opened my eyes for new ways to compose music.

Now, I love composing music, I play 3 instruments (trumpet, euphonium, alto saxophone), and I aspire to be a great composer. I composed my first piece entitled Beyond The Sun about the passing of my Nana.
